Vaughan’s Family Butchers wins Bpex's North West title

Chester-based Vaughan’s Family Butchers was crowned Overall Champion at Bpex’s North West challenge.

Owner Steve Vaughan won for his ‘Traditional Pork Sausage’ from 280 products entered into the competition at the Reebok stadium in Bolton.

Winners in other categories included Frasers Butchers in Bolton for a ‘Traditional Pork Pie’ and Browns Butchers in Chorley, Lancashire for their black pudding.

Vaughan's Family Butchers now goes forward to the national final in London in June.

Vaughan said: “It is amazing to have done so well, particularly at an event that is renowned for attracting large numbers of quality butchers.”

Taking a break from entering competitions, and judging a few himself, had helped Vaughan win the award: “I’ve been able to look at my sausages objectively and recognise those extra touches that go into making an award-winning sausage,” he said.

Bpex butchery and product development manager Keith Fisher said: “The North West stop on the roadshow tour never fails to disappoint.

“There was such a diverse range of products on display, which goes to show that consumers really have no better choice when it comes to buying quality and innovative meat products than their local butcher or farm shop.”
