The dairy and meat industries are to come together for the rebranding of the Royal Smithfield Show. The show will now form part of the Dairy Event and Livestock Show, and is being rebadged New Smithfield.
Organised in partnership between the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers (RABDF) and the Royal Smithfield Club, the event, which takes place at the NEC in Birmingham on 6-7 September, will target all farmers with beef enterprises.
The first day will focus on displays and practical demonstrations designed to improve physical and technical performance within a beef unit, while the second will offer comprehensive displays and commentary on increasing the market value of finished cattle.
RABDF chief executive Nick Everington said: “We are delighted to introduce New Smithfield to the event. RABDF is aware of the current state of the beef sector and the negative margins virtually all enterprises are making at present, which in turn are depressing total farm incomes. The show will offer in-depth technical, financial and business information to help its members, other dairy producers and indeed all farmer visitors with beef enterprises to improve their unit’s performance efficiency and, ultimately, sustainability.”
Royal Smithfield Club chief executive Geoff Burgess said: “This is a great opportunity for the Club to help create a major feature area dedicated to the production of quality primestock for the British meat industry. Our role is to highlight the very latest management thinking and technology available for the British livestock producer, which will subsequently help their business’ profitability.”
