Let's all say aye to a pie
Published:  01 July, 2006

Scottish butchers are being urged to take part in National Scottish Pie week, which will run from 25 November to 2 December.

The charity week, tagged "Say aye to a pie", aims to raise thousands of pounds for the Scottish Society for Autism from a percentage of money raised through the sales of Scotch Pies.

At the same time the battle for the title of World Scotch Pie champion is hotting up between butchers and bakers. The winner will be announced during the National Scottish Pie week on St Andrews Day, 30 November, at Lauder College in Dunfermline.

"We want to encourage all pie makers, particularly those who don't want to enter the Scottish Pie Championships," said Alan Stuart founder of the Scotch Pie Club. "We want them to see they have a vehicle to increase their pies sales."

Jim and Pat Hastie, of butcher shop Jim Hastie in Marakinch, finished as runners up in last years event, pipped to the post by a baker.
