Cost for cutlets
Published:  09 January, 2007

A Derbyshire butcher, who sold three whole lambs to a customer but left out the lamb cutlets, has been fined more than £1,800.

Hambridges Butchers of Matlock admitted a series of deception charges during a hearing before Chesterfield magistrates. The court heard that the customer had ordered three whole lambs, but had noticed that the cutlets were missing when she was putting the lamb into the freezer.

An investigation by Trading Standards Officers then found that the cutlets were missing and that Hambridges had also priced the lamb incorrectly.

Hambridges, which declined to comment after the case, was fined £750 with £900 costs and was ordered to repay £199 as the original sale price of the lamb.
