New 2 Sisters Sainsbury’s retail director unveiled
Published:  03 April, 2017

2 Sisters has appointed Gill Pendergrast as its new Sainsbury’s retail director.

Pendergrast (pictured) joins the UK Poultry division after more than three years in Food to Go and Meal Solutions as commercial controller and then head of commercial. Prior to joining 2 Sisters, she held senior sales roles with Cranswick, Uniq and Glanbia.

On her appointment, she said: “I’m excited by the new role and looking forward to working with the team at Holborn [Sainsbury's HQ].

“I’m absolutely passionate about doing the right thing and keeping the customer at the heart of everything that we do.”

Frank Robinson, commercial director at UK Poultry, said: “Gill will be a great boost to our commercial team. She has the experience to build a winning team and the focus to drive the category forward.”

The business recently reported that operating profit for its protein division was down to £4.5 million (m) from £7.1m in the same quarter of 2015/6 with like-for-like sales up 1.4% on the previous year.

At the time Ranjit Singh, 2 Sisters Food Group CEO, said: “Our results reflect the very tough trading environment we face. The market is as competitive as ever and currency fluctuations have brought about higher input prices. It is unsurprising that this has put a margin squeeze on a lot of businesses, including our own.

“However, there is underlying positive momentum across the business, as we have seen over the past four trading quarters. Sales are rising, and we are well-positioned to grow with our customers in new markets.”
