Kelly Turkeys takes Best Traditional prize

KellyBronze, the free-range brand farmed by Kelly Turkeys, has won Best Traditional category at the British Turkey Awards. Judges deemed the KellyBronze specimen to be "a magnificent-looking bird with a slightly gamey flavour".

The award for Best Convenience was scooped by Tesco Finest for the Bronze Turkey Breast with Pork, Chestnut and Apple Stuffing in its own foil oven tray.

Asda was named Retailer of the Year, thanks to a product range that judges said would satisfy demands from the store's family-orientated target market.

Trophies were handed out by ex-footballer Sir Geoff Hurst MBE and Matthew Pullen, chairman of the British Turkey Federation's marketing committee, in front of 200 guests at London's Claridge's hotel. Supporter of the 'I love British Turkey' campaign, Olympic medallist Gail Emms, co-hosted the awards with TV presenter Chris Hollins.

Pullen said: "We must congratulate retailers and producers for the continual excellence achieved in British turkey. The quality and range of products available all year round on supermarket shelves is encou-raging and should be recognised."
