Co-op extends high-welfare pork

The Co-operative is to extend its high-welfare British pork offering via its own Elmwood range.

All Co-operative own-brand fresh pork will be produced from British pigs reared to the retailer's higher-welfare standard standard or above, as well all its own-brand sausages.

The Elmwood own-brand was rolled out in 2007, as part of the retailer’s commitment to premium standard chickens and has since been extended to include turkeys and pigs.

Sean Toal, commercial director at The Co-operative, said: “Customers do not pay an added premium for Elmwood products, so they are ideal for those who are concerned about animal welfare, but don’t want to pay more for their meat and poultry.”
