Scotbeef celebrates training success

A Scottish meat processor was celebrating after six of its staff successfully completed Modern Apprenticeship courses in meat and poultry processing.

The six employees – James McMahon, John Moreland, Chris Lafferty, Chris Connolly, Thomas Trainer and Brian Kidd – at the Scotbeef plant in Queenslie were presented with their certificates as formal recognition of their training.

Stephen Morris, factory manager, said Scotbeef’s investment and commitment to its Queenslie employees has been one of the key factors in the plant’s greatly increased throughput and efficiency.

The Modern Apprentice scheme was delivered by Scottish Meat Training, working in partnership with the Scotbeef management team to ensure employees were given good-quality training that enhanced craft skills.  

Meat skills are among the few remaining craft skills and “it is important for the success of the Scottish meat industry that they are kept alive and demonstrated by people employed in the industry,” said assessor Malachi McCann, Scottish Meat Training.

“It is very important in today’s environment, when so much emphasis is on food safety and skills training, to acknowledge that Scotbeef has made a very serious commitment to training and, today, together with its employees, it can reap the rewards of its success.”
