Scottish supplier expands beef range for Tesco

Tesco has expanded its range of butchery products from Scottish supplier We Hae Meat with two new products: Beef Olives and Haggis Olives.

Made from beef sausage meat and a traditional butcher’s haggis recipe, wrapped in thinly sliced matured prime rump steak, the new products are located in the meat aisle of selected branches of Tesco across Scotland.

We Hae Meat, based at Cairnhill Farm near Girvan, South Ayrshire, landed a deal to supply 84 Tesco stores in Scotland in June with products such as steak mince rounds, haggis eye and black eye slices, steak block and steak sliced sausage.

The company was set up by fourth-generation cattle farmer Alex Paton and his wife Carlyn, who moved into butchering five years ago. The deal with Tesco took the company’s turnover beyond £1m and its workforce now stands at around 40 people.

The company was part of the Tesco local sourcing stand at the BBC’s annual Scottish food fest event, giving Scottish customers a preview of the products which will launch in selected stores from the 21 October.

Carlyn Paton said: “We Hae Meat continues to develop year-on-year. Alex and I are delighted that Tesco has decided to expand our range in their stores. As well as hotel and restaurant customers, we also supply to Aldi, Asda and Waitrose. From our small town beginnings, our business has gone from strength to strength.”

Angus Bell, Tesco category buying manager for local products in Scotland, said, “Since launching the We Hae Meat sausage range in June this year, their products have proved to be incredibly popular with our customers.”
