World Scotch Pie Championship 2013 “hots up”

A new judge has joined the World Scotch Pie Champion 2013 judging panel as the search for a winner hots up.

The former Dunfermline Athletic football manager and Provost of Fife Jim Leishman will sit on the panel for the 14th World Scotch Pie Championship.

Leishman will judge at the competition, which has seen a record number of entrants this year, with more than 100 butchers and bakers entering over 500 pies, pastries, sausage rolls, bridies and savouries, according to the organisers.

Entrants had to have their competition entry forms in by last Monday (19 November) and judging for the competition will take place next Tuesday, 27 November.

Winner of the football pie sector will be announced at the winning football ground in December, while the winners of the World Scotch Pie Championships will be announced at the Carnegie Conference Centre in Dunfermline at the winners’ lunch on Wednesday, 9 January 2013.

“Butchers and bakers across Scotland will have the opportunity to become recognised as producing the highest-quality savoury products, with awards given to those producing the best products in each category. The winner of the Scotch Pie category will be declared as the World Champion,” said head judge Robert Ross.

Competition founder Alan Stuart said: “We are delighted to be launching the 14th World Scotch Pie Championships. We have a huge number of hard-working butchers and bakers who deserve recognition for delivering great products day in and day out. I am looking forward to sampling for myself some of the best products on the market today and to seeing who the judges pick out as having produced something I know will be world class.”
