Entries open for British Turkey Awards

Retailers have been invited to enter their best British turkey products into the 17th annual British Turkey Awards, which is now open for entries.

The awards are made up of 12 carefully selected categories and include both the retail and foodservice sectors. Entries are expected to showcase the best in convenience, innovation and range of British turkey cuts on offer for Christmas and all-year-round consumption.

An independent panel of judges, which will also includes consumers, will scrutinise the products against set criteria for taste, appearance, quality, packaging and value for money.

Last year, Asda won the Retailer of the Year category for the third year in a row; this category gives retailers the opportunity to present their entire range of turkey cuts on sale throughout the year.

New in the competition this year are the Foodservice Operator of the Year and the Best Dietician Recipe categories, which will feature turkey recipes that have been recommended by professional dietitians to their patients and clients.

Chair of the British Turkey Federationís publicity and marketing committee Nicola Rye said: "We are really looking forward to this yearís awards and we hope it will be the most exciting to date. Consumers already have a fantastically wide range of versatile and tasty British turkey products available to them, so we are looking forward to seeing what UK producers have developed this year. And with the introduction of new categories, we hope to see even more great ways to serve turkey, from across the whole industry."
