Top sausage award for Fife butcher

A butcher from Fife has been given Scotland’s Top Pork Sausage award at the Royal Highland Show yesterday (20 June).

Robert Watson of Watsons of Leven was given the award for his pork and mustard sausage which he made with Specially Selected Pork.

Watson was “over the moon” to have won the award as his product was competing against more than 100 other sausages.

Uel Morton, chief executive of Quality Meat Scotland (QMS), which supported the awards, said: “Butchers deserve recognition for their innovation and product development. Many of them have also have responded to feedback from their customers looking for higher meat content sausages.”

The competition was entered by butchers from all over the country and the sausages were judged on taste, flavour, palatability, appearance, texture and general appeal.

Chief executive of the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders Association (SFMTA) Douglas Scott commented on the award: “Butchers are keen to ensure their new customers continue to shop with them and the fantastic range of top-quality sausages put forward by butchers for today’s event sends out a very positive message about the combination of knowledge, traditional skills and innovation offered by our butchers.”
