Trust in ready meals lost

British consumers have lost trust in ready meals and demand for higher welfare meat products is on the up, according to the the RSPCA’s Freedom Food assurance scheme.

The organisation said a study by YouGov, on its behalf, revealed 46% of people had lost trust in pre-prepared food since the horse meat scandal earlier this year.

The survey revealed that 81% of people would prefer to cook from scratch, with only 12% saying they would rather stick to ready meals

Freedom Food also claimed that demand was increasing for its assured higher-welfare products by around 36% over the last three years (2009-12), and they are predicting further growth of 12% this year.
