Pop-up shops kicks off British Sausage Week

British Sausage Week kicked off to a great start, with its own pop-up shop in London’s Old Spitalfields Market last Friday (1 November).

The shop saw more than 100 quality pork sausages pass through from the ‘Discovering Britain’s Greatest Sausages’ competition, which were cooked and handed out by Ladies in Pigs.

The shop also had a special visit from celebrity ambassador for the week, chef Simon Rimmer, who explained that he was “thrilled” to be part of the project. Rimmer will be travelling across the UK in an attempt to discover Britain’s best sausage as part of the week.

“As a chef, I know that sausages can be one of the best value meals to feed a family and when you choose those with a Red Tractor pork logo on-pack, you’re not only supporting responsible pig farmers, but ensuring the sausages you eat are produced to exacting standards too,” he said.

Sausage sommelier and four-times Champion of Champions competitor Shaun Vining told visitors how to spot a quality pork sausage.

“It’s great to be involved with British Sausage Week this year and to have the opportunity to help promote the quality and diversity of sausages made in this country,” he explained.

Bpex product and butchery development manager Keith Fisher said that the pop-up shop attracted large crowds, and was an “excellent way” to start this year’s Sausage Week.

“With more than 500 varieties available in Britain, the shop provided the perfect platform to showcase just some of the many quality pork sausages available across the country,” Fisher added.

British Sausage Week is up and running, taking place from 4-10 November.
