Dunbia receives environment award

Dunbia has received a platinum award in the Business in the Community (BITC) Arena Network Survey for its commitment to environmental activities.

The award is recognised as the highest environmental accolade available in Northern Ireland, and Dunbia has continued its success and commitment to green activities related to the business.

As Northern Ireland’s only benchmark for environmental management, performance and reporting, the survey invited 300 organisations from 15 different sectors to take part.

Dunbia’s CSR director David Farrell said: “In Dunbia we have a real focus on caring for the environment. Our green strategy is embedded in our everyday business activities and receiving this platinum award is testament to that. Our environmental management team continually strive to introduce new and better methods of how to save resources and, last year alone, we reduced water usage by 11.7% in NI and reduced our energy usage by 10.9%.”

Environment Minister Mark H Durkan claimed the Arena Network Survey was a “key influencer” in supporting organisations in their mission of being more sustainable.

He said: “In today’s challenging economic climate, smart businesses are increasingly looking to improve their operational and resource efficiency and reap the associated benefits of cost savings and greener credentials.

“I applaud all the participants of this year’s survey; they are ambassadors for good environmental stewardship who have, and will hopefully continue to, set the standard for responsible business practice.”
