Prices up

CATTLE prices rose across the EU last year, according to the latest figures from EU statistical agency Eurostat, but fell for other livestock.

Cattle prices increased by 3 per cent although with wide variations between member states: up 12.3 per cent in Germany and 2.5 per cent in France, but down 2.1 per cent in Britain. Meanwhile, prices for EU pigs fell 1.4 per cent; for sheep and goats 3.4 per cent; and poultry 3.8 per cent. One big change was a 14.1 per cent annual increase in Polish poultry production.
