New books offer insight

Following the publication of Poultry Inspection last year, Andy Grist has produced a second edition, showing new insights into the area.

A spokeswoman for Nottingham University Press said that due to a change in regulations, poultry producers would also be able to understand exactly why their stock was rejected should they receive condemnation data from the appropriate authority.

Meanwhile, Bovine Meat Inspection - Anatomy, Physiology and Disease Conditions is the second in the series.

The spokeswoman said: "Its full colour photographs make this an invaluable tool for all those for whom knowledge of anatomy, diseases and other conditions is required."

Grist has also produced a third book in the series called Ovine Meat Inspection - Anatomy, Physiology and Disease Conditions.

Aimed primarily at students, these books are divided into fully illustrated sections, guiding the reader through anatomy and physiology; explaining the diseased state, including how diseases can be recognised at the inspection stage and what action should be taken.

"These books will also be of interest to the veterinary profession and meat inspectors within the abattoir," the spokeswoman said.
