Meat & Poultry Processing Award deadline extended

Processors are being given extra time to be in with a chance of scooping a prestigious title under MTJ’s new Meat & Poultry Processing Awards.

The deadline for entries has now been extended by two weeks to 13 November and judges will be looking forward to assessing some of the best businesses in the UK sector.

Created by Meat Trades Journal to reward individuals and businesses across the processing sector, the awards are aiming to highlight best practice and professionalism for processors who are driving initiatives and improvements in both the home and export markets.

Ed Bedington, editor of MTJ, said: “It will be great to highlight some of the superb individuals and schemes that are out there in the processing sector. It is an area that too often gets little or no recognition, and we felt these awards would be a great way to reward the hard work that goes on.”

The event, which takes place on 22 March at the Birmingham Motorcycle Museum, will award winners in the following categories:

• Environmental Initiative of the Year
• Export Initiative of the Year
• Plant Manager of the Year
• Processing Business of the Year
• Supply Chain Initiative of the Year
• Young Processor of the Year

The awards are being backed by leading industry organisations the British Poultry Council, the British Meat Processors Association, the Association of Independent Meat Suppliers and the Scottish Association of Meat Wholesalers.

Sponsors of the awards include Applied Principles, Bizerba, the International Agri-Technology Centre and the Meat Training Council.
