Landia pumps solves blockages at Derbyshire abattoir
Published:  11 May, 2012

Landia's Chopper Pumps have helped enhance productivity at a leading abattoir, which supplies quality beef products for retail, commercial and foodservice markets in the UK and internationally. The two pumps, which are in continual operation at Pickstock Ashby in South Derbyshire, replaced previous equipment which had to be taken out of service once every two hours because of blockages.

One of the 5.5kW Landia units is used to transfer blood, but also has to cope with pieces of bone, hair and plastic tags that can enter the wastewater stream. The other Landia DGI handles slurry, and again has to deal with a degree of solids that would usually bring less well-made pumps to a standstill.

Martin Healey, maintenance manager at Pickstock Ashby, said: "The Landia equipment has been a considerable improvement on the pumps we used to have, which needed almost constant attention. Landia also understands the importance of minimal downtime at our site, where we process more than 1,500 cattle per week".
