The long-awaited final of MTJ's prestigious Butcher's Shop of the Year awards is fast approaching, with this year's ceremony to be hosted by a special celebrity guest.

Butcher's shops across the UK have been visited and judged for the annual competition, which celebrates all that is great and good about the butchery sector.

Finalists have been chosen from across the UK, with the winners in each region going head to head to compete for the title of UK Butcher's Shop of the Year. There are also national awards for Farm Shop of the Year, Butcher's Plus, Halal Butcher's Shop of the Year and the ever-popular Young Butcher of the Year.

Ed Bedington, editor of MTJ, said: "Our judges were extremely impressed with the standard of entries this year and we have some fantastic finalists. The quality of the competition proves that the butchery sector is thriving despite a tough economic environment, and we look forward to revealing this year's stand out shops."

The awards, which will be held on 22 November at the London Landmark Hotel, are sponsored by Eblex, Bpex, Hybu Cig Cymru - Meat Promotion Wales, Weddel Swift & Harmony Farm, Lucas Ingredients, Verstegen Spices and Sauces, Tican Chilled, the Meat Training Council and Quality Meat Scotland's Scotch Butchers' Club.
