Bpex works with FSA to ensure CCIR responsibility
Published:  03 January, 2014

Bpex is currently working with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and meat inspectors to tackle collection and communication of inspection results (CCIR).

Bpex claims the modernisation of meat inspection is “a real opportunity” to make FSA data more useful to producers. Additionally, it could improve the health of the national heard.

There have already been four pilots examining Bpex Pig Health Scheme (BPHS) assessment data compared to the FSA rejection data, which have resulted in mixed outcomes.

The pilot plants and meat inspectors have taken measures in order to ensure the correct recording of data, due to mixed results in the pilots.

Additionally, Bpex is currently considering a further pilot in Norfolk, at the same time as helping develop FSA Condition cards which could help standardise meat inspection sensitivity to key conditions.
