SuperMeat rivalry gets under way

Morrisons will be hoping to make it three on the trot as the supermarket sector gears up for the annual prestigious SuperMeat & Fish Awards 2014.

The standout competition for the supermarket sector will see arch-rivals Tesco and Asda looking to dethrone Morrisons from its place as the Meat & Fish Retailer of the Year 2013, while Lidl will be hoping to snatch some honours in the product categories.

Ed Bedington, editor of Meat Trades Journal, which organises the awards, said: “The competition to take the prizes in the SuperMeat awards is always fierce, and this year will be no different. These awards are the most prestigious in the meat industry and highly sought-after.

“The SuperMeat awards are long-established, trusted and have a rich heritage, which is celebrated by the whole chain. Winning this competition means a great deal to the retailers taking part. I’m looking forward to getting the entries in and getting down to the judging.

“Previous winners have certainly benefited from the awards with the SuperMeat logo recognised as an independent stamp of quality by consumers over the decade-and-a-half the awards have been running.”

The competition recognises excellence across the multiple retail meat and fish sector and will see the retailers compete across both product and store categories to take home awards. It sees products exhaustively judged by a panel of expert and consumer judges, while stores are visited the length and breadth of the UK and assessed against their rivals. Participants are also given an authoritative feedback report on how their products and stores have performed.

The results will be revealed at a prestigious black tie awards evening at the Park Lane Hilton, London, on 10 July, one of the stand-out events in the meat industry calendar.
