The 2014 Bolton & District Butchers annual ball took place at Rivington Hall Barn in Bolton, raising over £500 for two local charities.

The money was raised by raffle, for the Bolton Hospice and Christie’s in Manchester, both of which specialise in cancer treatment.

Bolton & District president David Hamer, national president John Mettrick, and the Lancashire president David McGrath were all present, as well as over 300 guests, made up of butchers, meat wholesalers and local businessmen.

The ball consisted of speeches and dancing, as well as the raffle. The guests feasted on ribs of beef, donated by north west meat wholesalers. The beef was piped in, as butchers carried the meat into the hall and to the top table behind bagpipers.

Toastmaster and past Bolton & District Butchers president Tim Pollitt said: "It was fantastic, a brilliant night, it always is. We sell out every year, and this year we had over 300kg of beef for the guests."
