Welsh meat promotion body seeks next study scholars

Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC) - Meat Promotion Wales has launched a search for scholars to enrol in their new livestock scholarship.

HCC is looking for anyone passionate about agriculture and keen to get involved in the red meat industry in Wales. The scholars will receive £3,500, to fund a trip abroad to a country of their choice, to investigate techniques and practices to implement in the Welsh red meat industry.

In 2013 two scholars, Shaun and Thomas Jones from Dolanog, mid-Wales, travelled to New Zealand in order to investigate reducing the cost of sheep production in Wales. Another past scholar carried out a study on how Argentinian farmers rear and finish cattle on a low-cost system. The scholars are also required to give a series of talks to local farmer groups.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Lynfa Davies, technical development executive at HCC. “We are keen to hear from enthusiastic individuals with fresh and fascinating ideas, who would be willing to share their findings and present new ideas to beef, lamb and pork producers in Wales.”

On completion of the scholarship, the scholars will be granted membership to the HCC Scholarship Association.
