Chef Mark Hix and Selfridges have collaborated to hold a high-profile dinner to promote local suppliers and British produce, and Northern Irish beef and pork is on the menu.

Held at the Hix Restaurant, Champagne and Caviar Bar at Selfridges in London, the best of British will be showcased to selected guests. Hix has selected guanciale, a cured pig cheek product, and salt-aged beef from Hannan Meats in Moira, Co Down, to feature at the meal.

Peter Hannan of Hannan Meats, who has won a string of prestigious awards for his meat, will also give a talk to diners about his approach to meat production.

He said: “It’s marvellous to see our beef and guanciale at such a prestigious venue in London. It’s another tremendous opportunity to showcase the quality of our salt-aged beef in particular to such an important marketplace.”

The company’s guanciale was the UK Supreme Champion in the UK Great Taste Awards in 2012, while beef supplied to Yellow Door Deli in Portadown was chosen as the UK Farmshop and Deli Signature Dish in 2013.

Hix said: “At Hix, we’re passionate about where all our ingredients come from, and our relationship with suppliers is of the utmost importance to us. We’re so proud of the produce they bring to us that we decided to showcase the best of British at this event in Selfridges.”
