Campbells new haggis set to ‘fill market gap’

A new haggis was launched yesterday (19 June) at the Royal Highland Show by Campbells Prime Meat which fills a “gap in the market”, according to the Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead.

Campbells worked in conjunction with Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) to produce the haggis, made with all Scottish products including Scotch Beef and Lamb. Campbells produced its first haggis in 1911 and the recipe remains a closely guarded secret.

Christopher Campbell, managing director, Campbells Prime Meats, said: “We are delighted to have worked with QMS on updating our haggis recipe and bringing this product to life. We envisage this product will give further confidence to our customers with regards to the strong emphasis we place on transparent supply chain and provenance.”

Jim McLaren, QMS chairman, said: “The new haggis from Campbells is a great example of the innovation that exists in our industry.”

Richard Lochhead, Rural Affairs Secretary, who sampled the haggis at the Highland Show, said: “There is a real gap in the market for a premium Scotch haggis of unrivalled provenance and I am sure this delicious recipe, which is made from Scotch Beef PGI and Scotch Lamb PGI, will prove to be a big hit with consumers at home and abroad.”
