DEWHURST'S MAIN distributor and supplier of beef, lamb, pork and poultry is £750,000 out of pocket follow-ing the retail chain's collapse.

DEWHURST'S MAIN distributor and supplier of beef, lamb, pork and poultry is £750,000 out of pocket following the retail chain's collapse.

Towers Thompson is now reorganising its cost base to accommodate the loss of the account, which represented about four per cent of its over-all turnover.

Finance director Terry Goddard at the Hertfordshire-based company, said the loss was covered by its credit policy. "We believe that a number of Dewhurst shops will emerge from the administration as viable businesses and we are well placed to deal with these in the future."

Dewhurst is in the hands of administrators and is waiting for a buyer to take on its remaining 35 shops and Tunbridge Wells HQ. Administrator, BDO Stoy Hayward, is conducting a review of the business.
