Boxer visits butchery sponsor

English light-welterweight champion Tyler Goodjohn has made a late-night visit to his sponsor, Smithfield’s wholesale meat suppliers James Burden.

To fit in with Smithfield’s trading hours, Goodjohn went to see the team at James Burden, who were keen to catch up with the boxer and hear about his progress.

CEO Trevor Hussey, who was ringside at Goodjohn’s recent successful English light-welterweight title fight at the O2 against Ricky Boylan, said: “James Burden has gone from strength to strength in recent years and it is great to be in a position to be part of Tyler’s support team as his career develops.

“We welcome the announcement of his next fight against John Wayne Hibbert on 31 January. This is for the WBC International light-welterweight belt and also an eliminator for the British title – we will be there to support him all the way.”

Goodjohn brought his Welterwight belt with him to show the James Burden workers, a number of whom have close ties with the boxing world. Steve Welch, manager of one of the James Burden outlets at Smithfield, is an amateur boxing coach. It was Welch who introduced Goodjohn to the James Burden team when the boxer turned professional.
