Provision trade body details new strategy

The Provision Trade Federation (PTF) outlined a new vision and strategy at its Annual Dinner last night (26 February).

The PTF’s new direction includes improved market information provision for bacon and pigmeat members, new membership categories, and better management in the dairy and yoghurt sections.

PTF chairman Andy Smith said: “Last month PTF was recognised as the Best Trade Organisation at the Food Management Today Industry Awards. This month we’re setting out how we’ll continue our proud track record of delivery for our members.

“Our vision is that PTF will be a powerful, expertly staffed and growing representative organisation, which is recognised by regulators, politicians, media, NGOs and industry as the authoritative voice of the provisions trade. With a new director general at the helm, driving forward our new three-year business plan we can realise this vision and set out how our members deliver for the economy and consumers.

“Altogether our products account for nearly 16% of household expenditure on food in the UK, we’re helping to keep retail shelves full of great-tasting natural products and we’re key to chasing down export growth. We need to tell that story and challenge inaccurate and outdated views of our sector.”

The organisation has been helping dairy and meat businesses since 1887. Its members trade in bacon and pigmeat, butter, cheese, milk powders, yogurts, dairy desserts and goat dairy products. It held its annual dinner at Grosvenor House in central London.
