British beef and lamb access to Thailand celebrated

British beef and lamb will be served up to guests at a dinner in Bangkok to celebrate gaining access to the Thai market. 

Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC), UK Trade and Investment and Eblex will host a reception and dinner at the British Embassy in Bangkok on 10 March.

Gwyn Howells, chief executive of Wales’ red meat promotion body HCC, said he was “delighted” that Welsh lamb had gained access to the country.

“This celebratory dinner provides us with an excellent opportunity to showcase the qualities that have earned Welsh Lamb a reputation as a world-class brand. HCC works closely with the Welsh Government, Defra and UKTI to open up new export opportunities across the globe, and I am delighted that this partnership has proven to be so successful,” said Howells.

Jean-Pierre Garnier, Eblex export manager, said: “Eblex is committed to helping cultivate new export markets for beef and lamb. There are many opportunities in the Far East and we are delighted that market access to Thailand has been secured, working with the support of Defra and UKTI. Defra and UKTI’s efforts were imperative during the lengthy process to secure export certification.

“There are significant opportunities for the export of premium products to Thailand in both the retail and foodservice sectors. Both the Embassy dinner and our presence at VIV Asia will increase our visibility in the market from the outset. This will hopefully stimulate interest in our products and bear fruit for the entire supply chain.”

The dinner coincides with the VIV Asia international trade show, the largest of its kind in Asia, which focuses on animal husbandry and processing, at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC) from 11 to 13 March.
