M&S scoops Best Retailer at SuperMeat & Fish awards
Published:  02 July, 2015

At a star-studded event at the Hilton Hotel in Park Lane, London, hosted by comedian Stephen Mangan, Marks & Spencer was awarded the Retailer of the Year accolade at the SuperMeat & Fish awards.

The winning supermarket was praised by judges for “demonstrating a deep knowledge of its range while having display that showcased the products in their best light”.

Marks & Spencer’s Tom Harvey said: “We're so honoured to win this award and it's for the entire team who have worked hard. This is a great endorsement of the hard work we put in every day.

"This award is great for our business and we will certainly be bragging about it in our marketing over the next 12 months."

Rod Addy, Meat Trades Journal editor, commented on the high standard of entries for this year’s competition. “The standard of entries was higher than ever. Marks & Spencer was a deserving winner, but it was inspiring to see how all the competitors were raising the bar, responding to the challenges in the marketplace and delivering deliciously innovative products.”

In a good year for the retailer, Marks & Spencer’s Grill Pork Belly Hog Roast with Kentish Apple Sauce & Crackling Crumb picked up the New to Market and Best Overall Product prize. It was described as having a “great balance of flavours and succulent meat, topped with an innovative crumb, making it the perfect meal”.

Harvey said: “We're thrilled to win Best Overall Product. This is a product that has had a complicated and difficult journey to market so we're very happy it has been recognised. There are a lot of different components in this product which is part of its appeal.”

He added that winning the Best Overall Product award "cemented Marks & Spencer's reputation as being leaders in product development".

The Best Store Team award went to Asda in Wakefield, Yorkshire, with the retailer also winning the Head Office Initiative award for its work in facing the challenges of the farming industry at home as well as taking into account global trends.
