Two new Q Guild members announced

Two Walter Smith Fine Food butchers’ shops have been awarded membership of the national Butchers Q Guild.

The two outlets at Bridgemere Nursery & Garden World, near Nantwich in Cheshire, and Melbicks Garden Centre in Chester Road, Coleshill, Birmingham, are now recognised as being among the highest-quality butchers in the UK. Both opened in November of last year.

This brings the Q Guild network to 110 members.

Walter Smith Fine Food butchers shop at Bridgemere is managed by James Wightman, while the butchery shop manager at Melbicks Garden Centre, developed in 2002, is Ashleigh Clee.

The company now has five shops in the Q Guild. Its other member outlets in the Midlands are at Albrighton and Lichfield, along with Huntingdon Farm Shop in Cambridgeshire.

Walter Smith’s director Robert Jones, who is also joint chairman of the Q Guild’s Midlands region, said: “We’re thrilled that two more of our shops have been awarded Q Guild membership – only Britain’s best butchers are allowed to trade within this industry-leading body.

“We are confident that, like our other outlets, they will continue to go from strength to strength and benefit from being part of the Q Guild, whose butchers are committed to supporting British farmers with home-produced beef, lamb, pork, game and poultry, providing an outstanding selection of meat and meat-related products of the highest quality.”

Gordon Newlands, general manager of the Q Guild, said: “We are delighted to welcome another two of Walter Smith’s Fine Foods shops into the Q Guild. The shops are both managed by up-and-coming young men and this is extremely pleasing to the Q Guild, as both young managers display a huge sense of skill, innovation and leadership.”
