Yorkshire farm opens butchery room

A Yorkshire farm has opened a new butchery room to sell its own produce. 

Coddy’s Farm in Holmfirth is selling produce from the family farm, as well as other selected local producers, five days a week.

It stocks Aberdeen Angus and Dexter beef, lamb and pork.

It previously only sold at the nearby Holmfirth market in Hollowgate, but owner Andrew Colwill said this would give customers more choice. “By selling our produce from home, we can offer our customers greater choice as the meat can be prepared then and there. There is also plenty of free customer parking, which makes it easier for customers to drop by.”

Coddy’s will continue to sell from Holmfirth market for the foreseeable future.

The new butchery room is just the latest extension to the business. Earlier this year the owners turned part of the site into a bed-and-breakfast and recently opened a breakfast room, which offers meals between 9.30am and 3pm as well as experience days in which guests can learn about animal husbandry, butchery, cooking and meet local producers.

There will also be a focus on seasonal produce, such as Christmas cakes and chutneys, pumpkin soup and winter broths.
