London bloggers receive a taste of Scotland

Esteemed food and lifestyle bloggers from London travelled to Scotland to learn about Scotch Beef PGI and Scotch Lamb PGI. 

Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) hosted the event as part of the Love Scotch Lamb Weekend, which ran from 5-6 September. The bloggers received the chance to meet butchers, chef and farmers from north of the border and learnt what makes the Scottish produce so unique.

While visiting Edinburgh New Town Cookery School, butcher Stewart McClymont from Scottish Meat Training demonstrated his abilities and gave the bloggers a hands-on workshop.

“I’m a huge Scotch Lamb fan and it was great to give the bloggers a chance to get some hands-on experience of preparing different cuts of lamb which are perfect for quick, midweek meals,” explained McClymont.

The butcher showed the food and lifestyle writers how to manage a lamb shoulder and how to extract small mini joints. They were also shown what cuts were best suited to young families.

“We’ve shown that, with the right cut of Scotch Lamb and a little preparation, food can be on the table in a matter of minutes.”

Once the lamb had been butchered, the meat was cooked by Susie Hughes, chef at the Edinburgh New Town Cookery School, for the visitors to sample.

Following their Scotch Lamb lessons, the guests headed to Hardiesmill in the Borders to learn about Scotch Beef PGI. While there, they received the opportunity to taste local steak and charcuterie.

During their time in Scotland, the bloggers were taught about the importance of animal welfare in their quality assurance schemes. QMS works closely with the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) to ensure that animal welfare standards are being met.

“Having a group of top food and lifestyle bloggers from London visit us here in Scotland is a fantastic opportunity for us to show them what makes Scotch Beef and Scotch Lamb – and those who work in our industry – special,” said QMS head of marketing Laurent Vernet.

“The bloggers, who have a combined twitter reach of nearly 450,000, can now communicate to their followers the fantastic quality and taste that goes hand-in-hand with Scotch Beef and Scotch Lamb.”
