Emma Heathcote has joined AHDB Beef & Lamb as the levy board’s new technical communications officer.

After graduating from Newcastle University with a degree in Animal Science, Heathcote began her career working for the Animal Health Agency (now known as APHA) alongside the TB section. She later moved to local government, where she worked as an animal health officer and farm advisor.

Following five years with the RSPCA, where it was her duty to monitor members of the RSPCA Assured scheme, Heathcote took up her position with AHDB Beef & Lamb.

“I am really excited to have joined AHDB Beef & Lamb as technical communications officer,” said Heathcote. “My background is in livestock and the aspects of my previous roles I have enjoyed most have been communicating with producers.”

In her new capacity with the levy board it will be her responsibility to communicate the outputs of AHDB Beef & Lamb’s research and development and knowledge exchange programmes. She will make sure that practical business tools are communicated to levy payers and stakeholders.

“AHDB Beef & Lamb have an important role in getting key and timely messages to farmers to help them improve their businesses and I am looking forward to contributing towards this work.”

James Wilde, AHDB Beef & Lamb’s head of communications, commented: “Emma’s appointment brings the team back up to full capacity, which will enable us to build on our existing work with the beef and sheep industry.”
