PPS packaging awarded for environmentally-friendly box

Transit packaging company, PPS, has been crowned the winner of the Eco Pack Challenge at the Packaging Innovations Show 2016, leading to opportunities to partner with Marks & Spencer (M&S).

After increasing sales by nearly half (47%) in 2015, the company was awarded for its Re-Fresh tray. In an effort to reduce environmental and cost waste along the food supply chain, the product has been designed to be leak-proof and reusable. PPS claims the product is ideal for transportation of smaller loads of fresh meat from producer to retailer.

“The last 12 months have been the biggest in our history, with the acquisition of [container company] Alison Handling and the opening of our new and significantly larger site in Grimsby,” explained Joanne Moss, managing director at PPS.

“This award win truly tops it off. We have already met with M&S to discuss how Re-Fresh could be integrated into their business.”

To win the award, the company had to give a Dragons’ Den-style pitch in front of a panel of professionals looking for the latest sustainable solutions. The judges concluded that the Re-Fresh tray was considered to have the most significant impact on the environment.

“A lot of hard work has gone into developing the product and we are delighted to pick up this accolade. We truly believe that Re-Fresh can completely revolutionise retailers’ supply chains and put an end to single-use packaging, which has a significant impact on the environment,” added Moss.

“We’re already well on our way to making 2016 equally as successful as 2015, and we are looking forward to taking Re-Fresh forward with M&S and other major suppliers and retailers.”
