Dicksons Pork Butchers grows operating profit, looks to the future

Butchery chain Dicksons experienced solid growth for the financial year ended 30 June 2015. Overall turnover for the business grew by 12.74%, leading to an increased operating profit of 14.48%.

During the year, the company opened three new retail stores and closed two, giving Dicksons a total of 26 retail outlets.

In a strategic report, the business claimed that the pace of growth and change is expected to increase, due to retail expansion. “New recruits will bring with them both skills and challenges during their assimilation into a long-established business but the board believes the changes being made are essential to achieve their long-term goals.”

Facility investments and the company factory will allow for the opening of new markets, which will work the manufacturing business harder. It is believed this will help maintain margins.

Recent growth, while maintaining profitability, has been welcomed by the Dicksons board, with the company remaining optimistic about its three-year plan to take turnover to £20 million by June 2019.

“It has been a very positive year for Dicksons across the business as a whole,” said Michael Dickson, managing director of the company.

“We have focused on broadening our research to new areas in 2015 with the opening of a new shop in Peterlee to expand the Dicksons brand further south into the region. In addition, we have opened new shops in Battle Hill and Pelaw, with plans to further increase our retail network over the next 12 months.”

Dickson added that the business had concentrated its efforts on developing new additions to its range via its new product development team.

“We are responding to the changing tastes and demands of our customers with new-style shop interiors, innovative products and different locations within the region and we hope to further build on this momentum over the next 12 months.

“2016 will be a year of real change for Dicksons as we push forward with ambitious plans within our shops and factory, but we are very confident that there continues to be a growing market for the Dicksons range of quality, from both our retail and wholesale customers.”
