Kerry Foods has promoted Ian Garrett to the key role of sales director of convenience.

The appointment is part of its campaign to help retailers grow sales of chilled foods within convenience and coincides with the launch of the next phase of Kerry Foods’ ambitious Building a Nation of Chilled Experts programme, under which it is aiming to help independent and convenience retailers realise a £6 billion chilled sales opportunity by 2018.

Garrett joined Kerry Foods in 2006 and has spent three years as sales controller.

“We are delighted to announce Ian’s appointment to this key role within our business,” said Kerry Foods UK managing director Bob Carnell. “He brings with him a wealth of experience to his new position and will be responsible for leading the sales team to deliver ambitious customer and channel strategies across wholesale and convenience.”

Garrett said: “This is an incredibly exciting time for chilled and frozen foods within the wholesale and convenience channel. With our manufacturing expertise, a portfolio of fantastic brands and best-in-class category expertise, we are perfectly placed to help retailers realise a huge sales opportunity within chilled and frozen.”

Kerry Foods has predicted that sales of the £3.8bn chilled foods category could grow by £2.2bn by 2018 if retailers follow its blueprint.

Garrett added: “Our research shows that the chilled foods category in convenience is set to grow organically by more than £700m by 2018, but that if we can bring retailers on the journey to help them reach the next level of chilled sales excellence, then that could grow by another £1.5bn. At Kerry Foods, we are passionate about helping retailers to achieve that growth and to support them wherever they are in their chilled food development.”
