With the halal market increasing, customers’ needs will be the main topic discussed at an upcoming halal industry event next month.

Hosted by the Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) Beef & Lamb, the seminar will be held on 22 February at the Crowne Plaza in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. The event is designed to provide a platform for the industry to debate key issues and opportunities in the sector.

“This is a great opportunity for halal sector representatives to come together and talk through some of the great work being done,” said Dr Phil Hadley, head of global supply chain development for AHDB Beef & Lamb.

“The halal market continues to grow, presenting a lot of opportunities for the sheep industry in particular. AHDB is committed to supporting the sector and helping to maximise its potential.”

Speaking at the seminar will be: Professor Joe Regenstein of Cornell University in New York, an expert in halal, kosher and animal welfare; Awal Fuseni, a PhD student at the University of Bristol, who will focus on the development of alternative stunning technologies; Jonathan Wilson, associate professor of business and management at Richmond Business School, who will discuss how to meet the demands of the halal consumer; and Abdalhamid Evans of Imarat Consulting, who will talk about the current challenges in halal certification and moves towards global standards.

Michael Richardson, AHDB independent retail sector manager will also take the opportunity to discuss AHDB’s activity within the retail halal sector.
