2 Sisters proposes Smethwick closure – 630 jobs at risk
Published:  10 April, 2017

2 Sisters Food Group has confirmed that it plans to cease production at a processing site in Smethwick, Staffordshire, which could result in the loss of up to 630 jobs.

The site, opened in 1996, is exclusively a chicken cutting processor and supplies retailers, other manufacturers as well as other 2 Sisters sites with chicken portions

It is currently consulting with staff about proposals to cease production at the site.

According to the statement, the factory at Bevan Way, Alpha Business Park, is “ageing and has significant challenges to meet the standards required by ourselves and our customers”.

The site employs 630 people, with 2 Sisters proposing to offer staff members roles at other group facilities.

“We do not take this decision lightly and fully understand the impact if this proposal goes ahead. This is why we will offer affected colleagues up to 200 roles currently at our West Midlands locations, which we will convert from agency to permanent roles.

“In addition, we will also seek redeployment of colleagues to our other sites in the West Midlands and the wider group. We are committed to our operations in the West Midlands and will work hard to ensure all possible options for colleagues are fully explored before any final decisions are made.”
