New post for AHDB’s Dr Phil

Dr Phil Hadley has been appointed to the new post of international market development director for the Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).

Hadley joined the levy board in 2004 as regional development manager for the south west, and has worked in various positions within the organisation since. Currently, he is head of global supply chain development.

His new role will see him lead a group of 24 experts in the market access and overseas teams, delivering AHDB’s export marketing programmes.

“I’m delighted to welcome Phil to this new post, which is an important step in achieving our vision of a world-class industry competing with the very best,” commented Christine Watts, AHDB chief communications and market development officer. “Working with the team at home and internationally to access and develop new markets and support the growth of exports for our farmers, growers and processors is now more critical than ever.”

In an effort to develop export markets, AHDB has launched an Inspiring Success strategy that runs from this year until 2020. Already, it has helped deliver a number of new overseas opportunities and market access in emerging markets, such as China, North Africa and Asia-Pacific.

In his current role, Hadley has been able to develop experience seeking and securing access to global markets, linking with exporters, UK government departments and their overseas counterparts, in delivering technical solutions and negotiating export approval.

“This is an exciting time for UK exports, and AHDB’s talents and expertise in terms of international marketing and trade access will become increasingly important in the coming years,” said Hadley.

“We will face some challenges as we seek to maintain our position as a leading exporter to Europe and grow our reach in third-country markets. I look forward to working with stakeholders across the supply chains to deliver positive outcomes for all the sectors represented by AHDB.”
