Booths shows off Christmas meat dishes

Northern supermarket chain Booths has unveiled its Christmas food range, including a tantalising array of meat starters and mains. 

Christmas starters from the retail chain, which operates 28 stores across Cheshire, Lancashire, Yorkshire and Cumbria, include 250g Chicken Liver Parfait with Orange Jelly and Duck Liver Parfait with Cranberry Jelly. Both products will retail in its stores for £8.

The mains include Lamb Shoulder with a Cranberry, Port and Rosemary Glaze, Lamb Leg with Sage & Onion Stuffing & Mint Gravy and Slow Cooked Beef (600g with beef chuck) with Chantenay Carrots & Silverskin Onions in a Red Wine Sauce. All these items are priced at £10. The lamb shoulder will have a minimum weight of 2kg; the lamb leg will be 1.6kg minimum. Both will be provided by Dawn Meats.

Booths is also offering Apple Fed Cockerel Cushion with Gluten Free Sage & Onion Stuffing, minimum weight 2.5kg, for £45, supplied by poultry and game bird producer Adlington, based near Coventry. For consumers with more traditional tastes, stores will be selling a free-range bronze turkey from Kelly Turkeys, based in Danford, near Chelmsford in Essex.

Under ‘Easy Entertaining Meals and Sides’, the retailer is offering a Game Pie for £15, containing partridge, pheasant, venison, duck and quail in a port redcurrant jelly and cranberry gravy. There’s also a Rose Veal Lasagne and a Herdwick Lamb Lancashire Hot Pot, each for £10, and a Blue Cow Pie, containing British beef, button mushrooms and a beef and Garstang blue cheese gravy on sale for £15. A Cumbrian Chicken, Dry Cured Ham & Leek Pie, retailing at £12, completes this part of the menu, with all these dishes on offer at 1kg. Catering butcher JC Altham & Sons, based in Morecambe, is supplying these dishes, which all contain 100% British meat.

A 600g Victorian Sausage Roll, selling for £8, and a 450g Pork Pie Topped with Lancashire relish, priced at £6, will be available as festive treats under a Party Pies and Cold Cuts range.

Finally, party canapés on sale will include Goosnargh Duck Confit Rolls with Plum Sauce, Gloucester Old Spot Sausage Rolls with Red Onion Chutney and Harrogate Blue Cheese Leek & Bacon Tartlets. Packs of 10 Brioche Buns with BBQ Pulled Pork and Chipotle Sauce or BBQ Pulled Beef and Black BBQ Sauce, priced at £7, plus 430g BBQ Pork Loin Riblets (£5) will form part of the same range. Other products in that range include an Indian Meat Selection comprising four lamb samosas, four chicken pakoras and four mini lamb kebabs, an eight-pack Chicken Tikka Sticks with a Mint Raita Dip (£6) and a 12-pack Panko Crumb Chicken in Sweet Chilli & Plum & Hoisin Marinades (£7).
