The Butchers’ and Drovers’ Charitable Institute (BDCI) has scored a hole in one at its annual golf day.

Held at Surrey Downs Golf Course, the event raised in excess of £5,000 for the charity, with 17 teams registered and 15 teams playing.

Matthew Bird from Townview Foods won the Stapleford competition with 38 points, while our own Matthew Bingham from Meat Trades Journal came second on 37 points (on count back) and Harry Bond Interfood Technology on 37 points in third. The Randall Parker team won the team prize (pictured above).

A successful ‘Beat the Professional par three competition’ was held, with only four successful winners Dave Hussey (Berkshire Meats team), Karl Burn (Two Counties team),  Garry Walker (Two Counties team) and Tony Harris (Towers Thompson team). All the prizes were presented by this year’s festival chairman Julien Pursglove.

The meat industry showed its support for the charity, donating prizes and sponsoring hole prizes for longest drive and nearest the pins. These were won by Jason Marshall, Karl Burns, Ken Chui, Harry Bond, Simon Buswell and Simon Hodson.

Next year’s golf day is expected to be run again on 20 September 2018 and anyone interested in entering a team next year should contact Alan Bird on 0207 236 1552.
