Industry legend Marco Peerdeman passes away
Published:  25 September, 2017

It is with great sadness that we report on the death of Marco Peerdeman, who passed away last weekend.

Much loved by the meat industry, Marco had worked with some of the top companies in the sector.

Described as one of the Netherlands’ most prolific butchers, he had been living in London, UK for the last 10 years.

One of his early highlights of his career was winning best graduate of the year at SVO Amsterdam in 1994 and the ‘Best Young Butcher of the Year’ title of The Netherlands in 1996.

His experience within the trade has been wide and varied, taking him across Europe from The Netherlands through to Ireland and the UK. Businesses he has worked with include ABP, GVFI and his own OrangeButcher Ltd.

Marco was also a sponsor and trainer/seam butchery tutor for the UK team for the International Young Butchers Competition (IYBC), as well as the chair of judges for World Steak Challenge 2017.

He successfully set up and introduced Butchery Classes at Barbecoa Butchery in 2011, which he described as one of his favourite roles in the meat industry – passing on knowledge about cutting meat.

He also lectured at Harper Adams University in Newport, Shropshire and provided demonstrations at meat/BBQ festivals such as Churrascada in Rio de Janeiro, Carnivoornia in Amsterdam and Meatopia in London.

Everyone at Meat Trades Journal and World Steak Challenge would like to extend their condolences to Marco’s family and friends.
